Arriving by water
Park at Church Point and take the ferry or a water taxi. Ten minutes later you step onto the shanty's deepwater jetty. There are no cars to worry about, so bags come in a wheelbarrow and nobody hurries.

The beach at the bottom of the garden
A pristine little swimming beach, sheltered and shallow enough for children. Kayaks, paddle boards and fishing gear live on the waterfront — take them out whenever the water looks right.

An island of about a thousand
Scotland Island is a real community: a general store run on goodwill, bush tracks over the top of the hill, wallabies and kookaburras, and a noticeboard at the wharf that still does the work of a website.

Evenings
Light the fire pit on the seafront, pour something at the wine bar on the deck, and watch the yachts swing on their moorings as the light goes gold and then blue.
